Fieldmice children are Reception and Ladybirds are the Nursery or preschool part of our class. We all learn together in our classroom and outside space, sometimes groups of children work with adults in a different classroom or areas of our school.
Our school mission is For everyone to reach their full potential, learning to love and loving to learn. We strive to create a language rich environment where positive communication is modelled and children can experience, learn, develop and refine their skills with the support of nurturing staff.

Monday morning - Ladybirds Forest School
Friday afternoon - Forest School - all children who are in school
We try to get outside to exercise everyday, so please make sure your child has easy to manage clothing to allow for climbing, balancing and running. We ask that children have a named pair of wellies and a waterproof coat and trousers kept in school, there are pegs in our outside area for these to be stored.
Underpinning all of our learning is a strong focus on Communication and Language and developing our Personal, Social and Emotional Skills to be confident, resilient and independent learners. Adults model high quality language and good play behaviours as well as focused teaching of emotional literacy alongside of school values of love excellence and well-being.
Every day Fieldmice (Reception aged children) engage in sound and word work: this is a combination of learning new sounds (phonemes) writing sounds (graphemes), reading short words (blending) and phases. Some children have interventions on the iPads for specific sounds to support with Phonics learning. Children have a daily Maths lesson that focuses on Mastering key concepts within the number system. We follow the NCTEM Maths programme that runs from Reception to Year 6.
Ladybirds (our pre-school aged children) are supported by class adults to explore the setting, joining Fieldmice children for some learning tasks, working in small groups with an adult on directed task such as name recognition or sound identification.
On Monday afternoon children will be introduced to a new book that will underpin the learning for the week ahead - new vocabulary will be introduced and this will be modelled to children throughout the week. On Tuesday's and Wednesday's children have a Drawing Club Literacy session, where they explore the story and key linked vocabulary before drawing and talking, with writing encouraged, about the Character and Setting. Children who have progressed in the Phonics system to Hold a Sentence will complete tasks around sentence recall and writing, before thinking of and writing their own phrases and sentences.
We offer a fun, varied and engaging curriculum that follows children's interests and works to promote and motivate children to be inquisitive thinkers and learners.
